Shortcode
A shortcode is a three-to-six-digit number leased from carriers in one country, used at high volume for verification codes and alerts.
In detail
Because they are registered per country and per carrier, a service that uses one at home often falls back to a plain long number abroad — the same code arriving from a different sender. They are not portable and cannot be resold as receiving numbers, which is why no marketplace offers them for verification. For you they matter only when you are parsing messages automatically.
