Sender ID
A sender ID is the name or number an SMS appears to come from: an alphanumeric string, a shortcode, or an ordinary long number.
In detail
Alphanumeric IDs are capped at eleven characters and are unregistered in most markets, which is why the same service arrives as a brand name in one country and as a random long number in another. Some countries block alphanumeric senders outright and rewrite them on the way through. For automation this is a parsing detail worth knowing: filtering on the sender is fragile, filtering on the code pattern is not.
